REV. LAVERNE W. POLLEY HAD SERVED AT CONCORDIA LUTHERAN, GREENWOOD Services for the Rev. Laverne W. Polley, 77, Paris, IL, a Lutheran minister and former Greenwood resident, will be at 11 a.m. September 25, in Grace Lutheran Church, Paris, of which he was a member and former minister. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. September 24 and from 8 to 10 a.m. September 25 in Smith Funeral Home, Paris. Burial will be in Paris Memorial Gardens Cemetery. He died September 21 [1997]. Ordained in 1945 in Kansas, the Rev. Polley served Lutheran churches in Arkansas and Illinois before coming to Indiana in 1965, where he was minister of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tell City. He then served the congregation of Concordia Lutheran Church, Greenwood, from 1969 to 1978 and was at Peace Lutheran Church, Berne, until retiring in 1985. He had served the Lutheran church on circuit and district levels and was former chairman of the Mission Board of the Indiana District. A graduate of Concordia College, St. Paul, MN, he was a 1945 graduate of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. Memorial contributions may be made to Concordia Theological Seminary of St. Louis Scholarship Assistance or to Lutheran Hour Ministry, in care of Smith Funeral Home, 211 S. Central Ave., Paris, IL 61944. Survivors: wife, Juanita Knoop Polley; children Laverne W. Polley Jr., Ann Lindsey, Ruth Yergler, Susan Warner; brothers Merrill, Gerald Polley; sisters Ruth Mueller, Marlene Habedank; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
