Mary Jane Evans, daughter of Evan J. Evans and Rachel Davis, was born 30 Oct 1861 in Stark County, Ohio. Her siblings were: Isaac (1857), Isiah (1858), Evan (1860), George (1865), John Davis (1867), Rachel F. (1869), Sarah (1872), David (1873), Violet (1876), Charles Foster (1879).

Mary Jane married Ellis William Roberts, son of William E. Roberts and Caroline, 5 June 1884 in Massillon, Stark County, Ohio

They were the parents of eight daughters and one son: Alice Caroline (1885), Alfred (1886), Rachel Emma (1889), Carrie M. (1890), Sarah Jane (1892), Violet Ernestine (1894), Mary Jane (1896), Vernice Farleigh (abt. 1901), Emily Corinne (1905).

Obituary - MRS. MARY JANE ROBERTS

Mrs. Mary Jane Roberts passed away Sunday morning at the age of 79 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Emily MacFarland of Enumclaw. She was born in Ohio in 1861 and was married in 1884 to Ellis W. Roberts, also of Ohio in Ohio and came soon to Wilkeson, where they lived until he died two years ago. She then went to Enumclaw to live. Mrs. Roberts was well known among Pierce county pioneers. Besides Mrs. MacFarlane, she leaves six other daughters, Miss Alice Roberts of Seattle; Mrs. Carrie Dodds of New London, Conn.; Mrs. Sarah J. Rogers of Eugene, Ore.; Mrs Violet Hadley and Mrs. Mary Bowen of Tacoma; Mrs. Vernice Munley of Portland; 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Maddox parlors in Enumclaw, burial at Wilkeson cemetery. She was a member of the Methodist church.

Mrs. Mary Jane Roberts, aged 79, passed away in Enumclaw at the home of her daughter, Mrs. McFarlin [MacFarlane].

Mary Jane Roberts, daughter of Evan J. and Rachel Evans, born in Wethersfield [Weathersfield], Ohio, in 1861. Married June fifth, 1884 to Ellis William Roberts. Came to Wilkeson in 1890, where have resided since. Mother of eight girls, seven of whom survive and are, Alice Caroline, Carrie, Sarah Jane, Violet, Mary, Vernice and Emily; 14 grandchildren, six great grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Rachel Wells., Miss Sarah Evans, and Mrs. Violet Gruel; two brothers Evan and John Evans of Ohio. A daughter of a Civil War veteran. Joined the First Christian Church in Ohio when first married.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 10th, at 3 p.m. from the Enumclaw Funeral Home with Rev. R. A. Walmsley, officiating. Interment in the K. of P. [Knights of Pythias] Cemetery at Wilkeson.
