Son of William Trethrake and Eliza Rowe, Henry married Harriet Nelmes on the 23 Jan 1866 in Fullarton Perth County, where four of their ten children were born. The family immigrated to Michigan in 1873. Six children were born in Barry County. By 1880-1900 the family settled in Leroy Township, Calhoun County, and later Battle Creek.

Harriet passed away on the 20th of March 1902. Henry's second wife was Eliza Valentine Sheffield married 23 Nov 1903. Henry married Harriet Elizabeth ‘Hattie' Smaley Merritt on the 3rd of June 1908 in Battle Creek.

Henry Trethrake, aged 72 years, died at the Nichols Hospital Thursday morning. He had been rushed there by ambulance only two hours earlier from his home at 70 Lulu Avenue.
He leaves a wife, and six children; Mrs. Dora Cadman of Cleveland, Edwin Trethric of Dowling, Mrs. Lily Prine of Battle Creek, Frank Trethrick of Leroy, Mrs. Mable Donahue of Chicago and Miss Bertha Trethrake of San Francisco.
The body was taken to Keet's undertaking rooms with burial in Morgan Cemetery.
