Mr. Joe Vaughn, sixty-six years old, died at his home near Eliasville last Friday and his remains were interred in the cemetery at that place Saturday morning, the funeral services being conducted by his former pastor, Rev. Lewis Cunningham.

Mr. Vaughn had bee a resident of the Eliasville country many years and was recognized as one of the country's very best citizens. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, a devout Christian gentleman possessing a large circle of friends, and he will be greatly missed.

Besides his wife he leaves several children, all grown.

Joe was an orphan. Family history states that he was the only survivor of an Indian attach and he hid in a hay stack. He is on the 1880 Census, in Young County, Texas as a farm labor, age 17, for Wiley P. Jones. He and Mattie McCorkle were married December 24, 1885 in Young County, Texas. Their first child, Jo Effie, was born in Sulphur Springs, Hopkins County, Texas and all other children were born in Eliasville, Young County, Texas.
