DEATH OF MRS. SAPPENFIELD.
Margaret, widow of the late Andrew Sappenfield, died in this city Saturday morning. Born in North Carolina Aug. 12, 1820. She was a daughter of Matthias Grimes, who at one time owned a considerable tract of land west of the city and after whom an addition to Fairfield was named. The family came to this country in 1835. Two years later the daughter was married to Andrew Sappenfield, and returned to Indiana. In 1860 the family came to this county, and has since made its home here….Nine children survive the parents — Mrs. William Hawk, William and A. J. Sappenfield in this county; Mrs. Ben Stump at Marshalltown; John Sappenfield in Illinois; Washington and Mrs. Frank Trent in Kansas; Mrs. David Goode in Oregon; and EPHRAIM in Oklahoma. Mrs. Sappenfield belonged to one of the pioneer families of Jefferson County…Her remains were interred in the City Cemetery Sunday afternoon….
