He was the son of William Alison Hargett and Sarah Pressley. I have seen Pressley spelled both ways but was from his mothers maiden name. He died at the age of 54 at the time of the War Between the States. He married Catherine Keziah on 22 July 1828. She was the daughter of William Keziah and Mary Slaughter. They had the following children:

Second marriage to Lucinda Keziah, cousin of his first wife, on 29 Dec 1853 in Union County NC. No children from this marriage. She died in 1855.
Third marriage to Elizabeth Owens on 15 Sep 1856 in Union County NC. One daughter, Mary Elizabeth, born to this marriage and she who died at age 3 months in 1860.
