"Edward F. Arndt, 82, of 2703 New Smithsville Road, Kutztown, was dead on arrival Tuesday at Reading Hospital and Medical Center, West Reading. Berks County Coroner William Fatora attributed death to natural causes.
Arndt was the husband of Laila M. (Danner) Arndt. They were married 58 years in September.
He was a janitor at Weisenberg Elementary School, Weisenberg Township, 1979-87; a maintenance worker for the former Caloric Corp., Topton, 1950-77, and a farmer in Weisenberg Township, 1936-57.
He would have have been inspector of elections for 50 years on Tuesday for Weisenberg Township.
Born in Mahanoy City, he was a son of the late Arthur and Martha (Barnhart) Arndt.
He was a member and councilman for many years of St. John's Lutheran Church, Fogelsville. Before that he was treasurer and councilman of St. Paul's Union Church, Seiberlingsville, for many years.
He was treasurer of the AFL-CIO union at the Caloric Corp. for 19 years.
Survivors: Wife; sisters, Mrs. Harriet Miller of Lenhartsville, Mrs. Beatrice Achenbach of Shoemakersville and Ivy, wife of John Hertzog of Kutztown, and brothers, William of Schuylkill Haven and Myron of Harbeson, Del. He was predeceased by a daughter Eleanor.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Keller Funeral Home, 1018 Church St., Fogelsville. Call 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday."
