Funeral services for Mrs. Rhoda Leighton, 81, widow of James L. Leigh ton, were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. A. Allan Brough officiating. Mrs. Leighton died Sunday in Hartland at the home of her sister, Mrs. Nora Ham, after a long illness.
Bearers were: Adrian C. Robinson, Francis Thomas, Clarence N. Pierce and Theodore H. Haseltine. The remains were placed in the tomb to await burial later at Mt. Pleasant cemetery.
Mrs. Leighton was born in Wellington, Nov. 5, 1870, the daughter of James and Olive (Staples) Adams but had spent the greater part of her life in Dexter. She was a member of the Fist Baptist Church, the Women's Christian Temperance Union and the Townsend Club.
She is survived by two sons, Joseph Earl of Providence, R. I., and Clifford F. of Dexter; two daughters, Mrs. Elvira Kempton, San Francisco, Calif., Mrs. Rhoena Odlum, Quincy, Mass.; a brother, Leslie Adams, Guilford; three sisters, Mrs. Nora Ham of Hartland, Mrs. Gertrude Cook of North Anson, and Mrs. Etta Bell of Guilford; seven grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces.
