When I was in the hospital last week one thought kept coming to mind when I was in Emily’s Room. What a blessing she was.

She was the blessing of "Emily"; a loving and devoted daughter, sister, and friend. Always caring. Always the provider of love and support, always there when you were wronged, and with unending mercy and grace was always there even when you were wrong.

She was the blessing of "Babe"; the wonderful wife of Bob. Again with love and patience never ending. Always supportive. Guiding with a soft hand and providing a nurturing Christian home.

She was the blessing of "Mom"; fierce protector and defender of Tom and Vanessa. Always there when hugs were needed, guidance when needed, and love when needed or not. A rare and perfect example of how to live.

She was the blessing of "Marme"; bringing smiles to three little boys with every visit, every phone call. With enough love to never give out of kisses and hugs or excited giggles when she heard them say “Hello Marme” on the phone. The patience of the saint she was to endure hours of chase and children’s games.

I always felt a little guilty Tom and Debbie didn’t get to really experience this blessing fully until, while sitting in the café at the hospital, Tom said that maybe that was what Marme was doing now, rocking his children until they were ready to come here. Well I have to disagree with Tom. Knowing Marme like I do, that is exactly what she is doing right now!

We leave her – and go and love like Emily loved, forgive like Emily forgave, stand for what Emily stood for, and live like Emily lived. And we need to pray every day that when our time here is finished we need to leave just like Emily, straight into the arms of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
