John Blatna died about 1851, probably by Yellow Fever. His wife, Mary C. Smith re-married to a Mr. Ruker/Rucker, and they had a daughter, Mary Josephine Ruker, sister to John Jr. and Maggie.
The children were farmed out when Mary C. Smith-Blotna-Ruker died about 1855 - Maggie was five years old.
