The son of Johann Jacob Koerner 1827 & Dorothea Margarette Riehm (1840-1911), he was manager of the El Paso, IL Grain Elevator Co. until his marriage to Belle Kratz in 1909.

They moved to Putnam, IN and in 1911 to Goshen where he farmed till his death.
