Darlene M. Van Voorst, 80, of Le Mars passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at the Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2008 at the United Methodist Church of Le Mars. Reverend Josh Hansen will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars, Iowa. Visitations will be after 3:00 p.m. Thursday, September 18, 2008 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present to greet friends after 5:00 p.m. Visitations will continue at the church on Friday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.carlsenfuneralhome.com.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Engeltjes, Troy Van Voorst, Travis Van Voorst, Randall Klein, Mark Rodenburgh, and Keith Owens.

Darlene Beach was born February 20, 1928 in Akron, Iowa to John and Sadie (Davis) Beach. Darlene grew up in Brusville, Iow where she attended school. Darlene was united in marriage to Andrew Van Voorst on October 24, 1944 in Le Mars. Darlene and Andrew made their home in Le Mars. She was a homemaker and provided childcare in her home to many youths of the community.

Family was Darlene's main priority. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren when they were young. Her home was always the gathering spot for her children, from youth through adulthood. She loved to have family around for holidays and cook for all. She will be remembered for her "awesome" chocolate chip cookies. Her generosity and thoughtfulness will be remembered by all. She also enjoyed camping, tending to flowers, and watching the squirrels.

Survivors include her four children: Pat Hughes and her husband Don, Evelyn Rodenburgh, Linda Van Voorst and her finance Phil Meier, Denny Van Voorst and his wife Cheryl all of Le Mars; 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren; 3 brothers; Gary Beach, Michael Beach, and Bob Lux; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Andrew Van Voorst on June 15, 1997; 2 sisters, Dorothy Martin and Jean Sanow; and 2 brothers: John "Bud" Beach and Delbert Beach; and a grandchild Stephanie.
