Chet, age 73, of Port St Lucie, FL, died Wednesday, March 2, at Treasure Coast Hospice.
He was born in Niagara Falls, NY and graduated from Lockport High School. He attended the University of Rochester, where he joined Theta Chi fraternity. He graduated from State University College at Buffalo, and met his bride, Linda Thorpe. Chet & Linda built their first home in Pendleton, NY. They raised three children there.
After teaching math, then working for Carborundum Corporation, he started a computer services company, Dataware Inc., where he served as President. After nearly twenty years, he sold the company to Computer Task Group (CTG) and stayed as Branch Manager. He participated in the Lion's Club.
Chet retired in 1990, moved to Florida and joined St. Andrew Lutheran Church. Thus began Chet's years of volunteering, including delivering for Meals on Wheels. He became a Stephen Minister, a Stephen Leader, and assisted the pastoral staff as the Hospital Visitation Minister. He offered inspirational readings, prayer, communion, and caring conversation.
He enjoyed crosswords, sudoku, canasta, dominoes, and teaching chess to his grandson, Joshua. His steady advice and ready smile will surely be missed.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda Czekaj of Port St. Lucie, FL, daughters Cheryl Czekaj of Lockport, NY and Jennifer Anderson (Ken) of Las Vegas, NV, son Peter Czekaj of Waldorf, MD, and grandsons Joshua and Jeremiah Anderson of Las Vegas.
Services will be held on Tuesday, March 8th, 2011, at 2:00 pm at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 295 Prima Vista Blvd, Port St. Lucie, FL 34983. Contributions may be made to St. Andrew Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, or Treasure Coast Hospice, 5000 Dunn Road, Fort Pierce, FL 34981.
