Professional Football Coach. A defensive coach specialist, he coached in the National Football League from 1975 to 1998 with the Detroit Lions, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams, and the Green Bay Packers. He was the Packers' Defensive Coordinator under Head Coach Mike Holmgren in 1996, and his defensive system, aided by the presence of future Hall of Fame defensive lineman Reggie White, helped the Packers win the National Football League championship. His nephew, Pat Shurmur, became an NFL head coach.
