On March 1, 2011 Lenora Bridges departed this earth and went to her heavenly Father.

She was born Juanita Lenora Jones on December 21, 1922 in Sipe Springs, Texas to Robert E. Lee and Ozella Mae Herring Jones.

She is predeceased by her husband, Scott; son, Johnny Melvin Bridges; her father & mother; brothers, Archie Jones, John Madison Jones, John Taylor Jones; and sisters, Inez Brown, and Dolores Jentsch.

She is survived by her sons, Scott Bridges of Frisco, and Jack Bridges of Austin; grandson, Scottie Bridges; granddaughter, Candace Bridges; great-grandson, James Halcomb-Bridges; great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Bridges all of Wichita Falls; brother, Rlee Jones of Katy; and many nieces and nephews.

She was Lenora to all of her friends and "Buddie" to all of her family. Buddie was her dad's special name for her. A group of her husband's friends knew her as Cleo – a nickname she earned by out-shooting them with a rifle. Buddie was blessed with a large family who loved her dearly. Her in-laws treated her as their own sister. She and Melvin Scott Bridges were married on March 24, 1942 in Rochester, Texas. They lived numerous places in Arizona, Oklahoma and Texas before moving to Wichita Falls where her husband worked in civil service at Sheppard Air Force Base. In her younger life, Lenora worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone. She played on the company women's basketball team as a guard averaging over 20 points a game in one season. After the death of her husband in 1964, she went to work as the secretary for Edgemere Church of Christ where she was a charter member. God and the Church were her loves in life. She retired from Edgemere after 27 years but soon bored of retirement. She returned to work at a greeter service for a couple of years welcoming newcomers to Wichita Falls. She later moved on to a sales position at Bealls department store where she worked until she was 80. She spent the last 5 years of her life in Austin. She had a beautiful smile, a wonderful sense of humor and always a kind word. She extended her hand to help others regardless of her circumstances. Her devotion to God and her tenacity in life were an inspiration.

The funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday March 4, 2011 at Edgemere Church of Christ at 4728 Neta Lane in Wichita Falls, with Joe Williams, officiating. Interment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery in Chickasha, Oklahoma under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls. Pallbearers will be her nephews, Bill Bridges, Richard Jones, Kirk Givens, Leon Jones, Richard Payne, and Keith Jones.

For those desiring, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Sonshine House Ministry through any of the area Churches of Christ.

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. In my Father's house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also." John 14:1-3
