MARY JANE "Janie" OAKES, went home to be with the Lord on Friday April 20, 2007. She was born, raised and lived in West Tennessee, but has lived in the Chattanooga area for the pass 28 years.
She was a member of the Ridgedale Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class. A graduate of Union University, she was a member of the Chi Omega Fraternity and was the daughter of the late, William Walter and Freddie Farley Murphey.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, James L. Oakes, Sr.; daughter, Beth ....; son, Jim ....; grandchildren, Jason ...., Sara ....., Justin..... and Jessica .....; sister, Anne.
