ENOS COMMONS
Enos was the son of Nathan & Martha (Beard) Commons. He was born 8 Aug 1820 in Centerville, Wayne County, Indiana.

Enos Commons was married twice. His first marriage was abt 1838 to Delilah Sanders in Wayne County. While living in Indiana, they had a son. He was named Nathan, after his grandfather. Nathan born on 9/5/1839.

Sometime after the 1840 census, Enos, Delilah and baby Nathan moved from Wayne County, Indiana to Mercer County, Illinois, along with his sister Hannah and other Beard descendants from their mother's family.

After moving to Mercer County, Illinois, Enos & Delilah had 4 additional children: Louisa J., b. 5/27/1841, d. 8/12/1841; Jasper, b. 11/31/1843; and Twins, John & Martha b.& d. 10/7/1849.

Illness was rampant in Mercer County in the 1840's and a sick list was published in the local newspaper. Enos Commons himself was on the list for 3/17/1847 but made a full recovery.

His first wife Delilah (Sanders) Commons died 6/3/1852 at the age of 32, she is buried in the Mannon Cemetery, New Boston Twnship, Mercer Co, IL along with their three young children.

After Deliliah's death, Enos married widow Margaret (Myers) Clark, daughter of Col Andrew and Mary (Lloyd) Myers on 9/28/1852 in Mercer County.

Enos & Margaret's children, all were born in New Boston Twnship, Mercer County, Illinois:

Andrew Myers, b. 2/14/1856
Orpha M, b. 12/14/1857
Ulysses Simpson (U.S.)Grant , b. 2/25/1864
Ruth Martha, b. Apr 1864

NOTE ABOUT CHILDREN:
Enos Commons 2nd wife Margaret (Myers) Clark is a sister to Jane (Myers) Mannon who was the grandmother of Rose (Larrance) Commons. Rose was the wife of Enos and Margaret's son, U.S. Grant Commons. Also their Son's Levi & Andrew were named after Margaret's brother Levi Myers and her father Andrew Myers. Daughter Orpha was named after Margaret's sister Orpha (Myers) Ellett and dauhter Ruth received the middle name Martha, in honor of Enos's mother.

ON THE MOVE
After arriving in Illinois, Enos Commons had purchased land in Mercer County, where he engaged in farming, but sold the land by 1871 when he and son's Nathan and Jasper Commons took their families to Harvey County, Kansas, along with many other Mercer County families in the great "Prouty Wagon Train".

Historic Incidents of Harvey County, Kansas for Emma township tells that The first national celebration was held at the residence of Enos Commons, on July 4, 1872.

Enos and his second wife Margaret (Myers) Common's are both Buried in the Oretown Cemetery; Oretown, Tillamook County, Oregon.

ENOS COMMONS
