Graveside services for Lelmer C. Reynolds, age 85, a Grayson County native who died Sunday, November 22,1998 in Sherman will be held at West Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Cass French, pastor of Pecan Grove Baptist Church will officiate. Arrangements are under the Dannel Funeral Home.

Mr. Reynolds was born July 18, 1913 in Grayson County, the son of Charlie and Jennie Flowers Reynolds. He attended Sherman High School where he lettered in football and track, holding the state shot put record in U.I.L Athletic Competition for a number of years. He graduated from Texas A & M University in 1938. He served with distinction for over 30 years in the U. S. Department of Agriculture, where he held several positions in the south and southeast. One of his notable accomplishments was planning and completion of landscape work on the historic Natchez Trace.

On January 21, 1934, he married Alice F. French in Sherman. They were married for 64 years. Mr. Reynolds was a member of the First Baptist Church, Sherman and the local chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

He was preceded in death by his wife in May, 1998 ; their son, Lelmer C. "Sonny" Reynolds ; his parents and two brothers, Van Reynolds and Elmer Reynolds of Bells. He is survived by a brother, Delmer Z. Reynolds of Sherman and a sister, Fannie Reynolds Ayres of Bells ; nieces, Dovie Halliburton Robbins of Bells, Mary Groner of Sulphur Springs and Martha Reed of Quitman ; nephews, Donald Ayres of Bells, Richard Reynolds of Sherman, John Hopkins of Tyler and many great and great great nieces and nephews. Lelmer was known to them and his many friends as "Uncle Lel" or "Pappy."
