Surviving are her children, Robert Murray and wife Sharon of Marion and Louise Jensen of Marion; a sister, Bethel Keith of Cedar Rapids; a sister-in-law, Helen Baily of Canoga Park, Calif.; five grandchildren, Allen Murray and wife Rhonda of Marion, Douglas Murray and wife Judy of Sandy, Utah, David Murray and wife Theresa of Marion, Eric Jensen and wife Cathleen of Chicago and Susan Faley and husband Todd of Marion; and seven great-grandchildren, Michael, Bradley, Amanda, Steven, Scott and Kyle Murray and Hannah Faley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; two brothers, Jay and Ernest; and two sisters, Mildred Baily and Beryl Phelps.
Born the daughter of Eugene and Mary Hall Baily on April 8, 1909, in rural Central City, she was united in marriage to Harold H. Murray on June 29, 1935, in Center Point. He died on Oct. 5, 1993. LaVona started teaching in 1926, in a one-room school house and continued teaching and substituting over the next 30 years at various schools in the area. She attended Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church for many years and belonged to United Methodist Women.
A memorial fund has been established.
