She was born February 25, 1933, at Bloomington, Illinois,a daughter of Coy Austin and Lora Ivy Carter Lyle. She married Harlan Barekman Ocober 5, 1951, at Lincoln, Illinois.
Survivors include her husband, Harlan; one son, Rodney, one daughter, Debra Knaust, one brother, Herlon Lyle, one sister, Bonnie Langhoff, and five grandchildren.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Monett, Daughters of the American Revolution and several genealogy society groups. She wrote 12 books on genealogy.
She lived in Monett since 1968 and was secretary of the city of Monett until retiring in 1972.
