Jacqueline Bogue Brock Memorial
Sutton Thanksgiving Reunion, 2011, by Jean Sutton Langley

Jacqueline Bogue was born on October 21, 1930, to Arthur Marvin and Mary Evelyn Sauls Bogue. Jackie came into our family when she married John Wesley Brock, Jr. on April 15, 1950. They were married in Eureka Methodist Church. Their first heartbreak came when their baby daughter, Carol Elizabeth, was born and died on May 3, 1955. On April 26, 1956, their son, Roland Daniel Brock was born to Jackie and J.W. Michael Dean Brock was born on August 13, 1959, and then Allan Keith Brock was born on November 28, 1965. Their second heartbreak came when Dan was diagnosed with Hodgkins Disease. He went through treatment at Duke Hospital and was in remission. He had a few good years and then it returned. Dan passed away on July 6, 1981. He was 25 years old.

When J.W. died on November 24, 1998, Jackie lost the love of her life. He had been diagnosed with leukemia three weeks before, and he was not able to overcome it. They had been married for 48 years. Jackie grieved for J.W. and her family became even more important to her. She delighted in hearing from them and her grandchildren were her pride and joy.

Jackie's health was not good. She struggled with her daily aches and pains, but she persevered. She was diagnosed with Scleroderma which was the cause of her pulmonary fibrosis. Becket and Mike said that it seemed that there was a new side effect or new reaction every time they turned around. Jackie was on oxygen for eleven years but that didn't slow her down. If she wanted to do something, she would find a way to do it. Her sickness became worse over the years but she remained as active as she could.

She continue to go to church, the senior citizens meeting, to get her hair " fixed" on Thursdays. But her favorite outing was going out to eat after the hair parlor, mostly to the Texas Steakhouse, then on to Walmart. Becky said she he waitresses at the steakhouse spoiled her, she has her favorites that she asked for by name, to sit in their section. And when the rolls were brought, they best not forge to bring a separate butter for each person at the table. She thought everyone was like her- and. Just wanted a little bread with their butter.

Jackie lived alone, with daily help, until September 2010, when she moved to thr residential side of Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro. She made this her home away from home. She celebrated her 80th birthday at Kitty Askins in October, with all her family. As her body grew tired, she knew it was time to go but she continued to "take care" of her family. She wanted them around but she allowed them time to do the things they needed to do. On December 13, 2010, twelve years after J.W. had died, Jackie went home to be with him and Dan.
