Married to Adam Shaefer in Ellenville, New York.

Centralia Times, Friday, April 28, 1899, page 4:
Obituary
Shaefer-- Willihelmina Smith was born in Germany May 25, 1830. She came to America in 1853. Some time after her arrival in this country she was married to Mr. Adam Shaefer, a native of her own country, Germany. They resided in the state of New York for about sixteen years, Mr. Shaefer finding employment in a glass factory during these years. Six children, five sons and one daughter, were born to them.

In the year 1870 Mr. Shaefer, with his wife and four children (two of the children having died in N.Y.) came to Kansas and located on a farm a little way south of Centralia. Here they lived for about twelve years, improving a western home. November 7, 1882, Mr. Shaefer died. Since the death of her husband Mrs. Shaefer has lived on the old homestead. Her two sons, John M. and Leonard, as dutiful sons, have cared for their mother through the years of her widowhood.

Mrs. Shaefer was a woman who loved her home, and was one of those of whom the wise man speaks when he says, "She looketh well to the ways of her household and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up and call her blessed." She was truly a good and kind woman, a faithful wife and loving mother.
Mrs. Shaefer had been sick but a few days. Her death occurred on the 13th of April in the house of her son, on the old homestead where twenty-nine years of her life had passed. He age was 68 years, 10 months and 18 days. The husband and four of her six children have gone to the grave before her.

The funeral was held from the home on the 14th. A goodly number of neighbors and friends gathered there who in tearful silence listened to the words spoken from Rev. 14:13.
We buried her by the side of her husband in the Centralia cemetery, there to sleep with her kindred dead until the resurrection, when they that are in their graves shall hear the Saviour's voice and come forth to the resurrection of life.

Two sons, twelve grandchildren and many friends and neighbors, will enjoy on earth no more Grandma Shaefer's pleasant smiles and helpful hands.
P.K.S.
