Frances's younger sister Alice "Rhoda" (Ailing) Craig died of consumption at the age of 25, leaving three young children. Frances raised Rhoda's daughter Ruby Alice Craig, who later married Arthur Stanton Hascall.

MRS. MARTIN J. DENNIS passed from this life Friday, May 26, 1944,at her home at 309 Cass Ave., Vassar, at the age of 75 years, three months and twenty days.
Frances J. Ailing was born February 6. 1869, in Canada and came to Tuscola County when a small child. May 16, 1894, she united in marriage with Martin J. Dennis.
She is survived by her husband, and one daughter, Mrs. Arthur Hascall of Vassar. Another child died in infancy. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Earl Wixson of Caro, three brothers - Simon Ailing, Pontiac, Orlando Ailing of Drayton Plains, and Edward Ailing of Caro; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was a member of the Methodist Church and the Women's Relief Corps of Vassar.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, May 29, 1944, at Atkins Funeral Home, Rev. Frank Hartley officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.
