Halvor Reise, 83, of Bemidji died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1993, at his home.Memorial services were at First Lutheran Church. Private family interment, following cremation, Aardahl Lutheran Cemetery.

Mr. Reise was born Feb. 14, 1910, in Frohn Township, rural Bemidji, to Torjie and Sina Reise. He grew up and went to school in the Bemidji area, attended Sunnyside School, then immediately went to work in a sawmill, then as a truckdriver and later as a logger. He married Helen Knutson June 11, 1938, at Grygla. They lived in the Bemidji area until 1940 when they moved to Alaska, where he was employed by the Alaska Road Commission. They returned in 1941 to Bemidji, then moved to Athol, Idaho, Portland, Ore., and Seattle, Wash., during World War II. He returned to Bemidji in 1944 and had lived here since. He worked as a building contractor, building and remodeling residential and commercial properties. His last major project prior to retiring in 1967 was the remodeling of Northern National Bank. After his retirement he built the Neilson-Reise Arena and the Day Activity Center in Bemidji. He was a former owner of the Westwood Trailer Park and the Junction Laundromat in Bemidji, a member of the First Lutheran Church and a former member of its building committee, and a member of the Bemidji Fish Fry Crew, Sons of Norway, Headwaters Shrine Club, which he had also served as president, AAD Temple, Elkanah Commandery, Bemidji Masonic Lodge and Royal Arch Masons. He was a member of the Paul Bunyan Vintage Auto Club. He had restored 17 cars and one White truck, which is in a museum in Mason City, Iowa.Four of his cars are on display in a museum in Washington, D.C. He was an avid supporter of youth hockey, helped to build Cameron Park Rink and was awarded the "Rink Rat" by the Bemidji Blue Line Club. He and his wife are the originators of Fantasy on Ice, which they co-chaired for the first seven years of its performance. He had also served as co-chairman for the American Heart Association.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Thomas (Kristi) Reise of Bemidji; three daughters, Wanda (Robert) Odegaard of Bemidji, Shirley (Ernest) Ashley of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Terri (Ron) Otterstad of Bemidji; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and four sisters, Lil Turner of Anchorage, Alaska, Berdie Jaycox of Bemidji, Hazel Shaw of Big Lake, Alaska, and Mary Ann (Neil) Nelson of St. Paul.

He was preceded in death by two infant sisters.
