He was born about 1862 in Texas . . . on the 1860 census, his parents were enumerated in Mclennan County, Texas . . . in 1870 they were West of the Brazos River in Mclennan County, Texas . . . his father was dead by 1880 and buried in Weatherford, Parker County, Texas . . . the family was enumerated in Weatherford on the 1880 census . . . Jeff was married before 1886 to Kate Green . . . they are known to have had three children . . . in May of 1891, while working as a wagon boss with the Matador Land and Cattle Company, he was killed by J.M. Mcleod . . . one news clipping said the remains were buried at Matador in Motley County, Texas . . . one said the body was returned to Weatherford, Texas for burial . . . an article found online says that, "Varner was buried, none too soon, first in Boothill and later reburied at East Mound Cemetery, land donated by Matador Land and Cattle Company." . . .
