Sarah Wilson was born in Sowerby to William Wilson and his wife Mary Pollet. She was baptized on October 4, 1801 at St. Peter's church in Sowerby. Sarah married the widower Joseph Sutcliffe (his first wife was Grace Helliwell) in Elland, Halifax, Yorkshire on August 27, 1821. They came to Philadelphia on Ship Algonquin on May 10, 1834. They came with their 5 children, Mary, Samuel, Joseph, Ann and Lucy. Sarah and Elizabeth were born after they arrived in Manayunk, Philadelphia. Lucy married Thomas Binns and lived in Elizabeth City, New Jersey after leaving Pennsylvania. Mary probably died before her father, Joseph in 1847, since she is not mentioned in his will. According to Joseph's will, his 2 children, Hannah and William from his first marriage to Grace Helliwell, stayed in England. He remembered them with a monetary gift.
