Samuel and Mary "Polly" Williams Sheppard were with a caravan heading west from Roxboro, N.C. (near the Virigina border). When they reached Midway, a community in Cleveland Co., N.C. (now Kings Mtn. & Shelby on Hwy. 74), sickness struck and they settled there. Some of the relatives continued on to Texas. The Senator Sheppard that the airforce base in Texas is named for is belived to be some of this group. Samuel and Polly had the following children:ThomasWilliam R. CicroeDockJohnJane (twin to John), she died very young.son of William Sheppard and Sally Oliver. The grandson of James Oliver and Susanna Lemons.
