Carolyn "Carol" Edith Emrie passed away on Feb. 16, 2011, in La Junta, Colo. She was born on Nov. 4, 1935, to Marvin and Grace Niswonger in Little Rock, Ark. On May 1, 1978, she married Darrell Emrie. Carol was a deputy sheriff alongside her husband, former Bent County Sheriff Darrell Emrie. She was also an EMT. She was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew her. Her husband, Darrell Emrie, survives her. Her children also survive her: William Eckert, Patti Watkins, Robert Eckert (Cathy), James Eckert, Cynthia Colburn (Mike) and Sandra Willams (Rob); and four grandchildren. Her parents and brother, Truel, preceded her in passing. Two brothers and one sister also survive her. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at Horber Funeral Chapel in Las Animas, Colo. The burial will be at Fort Lyon National Cemetery immediately following the service.
