U.S. Congressman. As a student of the International Correspondence School of Scranton in 1914, became interested in banking and various business aspects. During World War I, he served as a private in the 33rd Division, 58th Headquarters Brigade, U.S. Army, overseas, (1918-19). After the war, he established an insurance agency in 1921 and was a trustee of the Pennsylvania Industrial School, (1939-43). In 1943, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-eighth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of James E. Van Zandt, reelected to the Seventy-ninth Congress, serving until 1947. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was secretary of banking of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, (1947-51), president of the First National Bank of Claysburg and served in Pennsylvania State Senate, (1963-67).
