William Fehlinger was the son of Frank Fehlinger and Johanna (Schmidt) Fehlinger. From 1892 he lived in Wilkes-Barre at 60 West Maple Street, and operated a grocery store at that address in 1907. He was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Wilkes-Barre and a stained glass window in the church chapel is dedicated to him and his family. His wife was Margaret Shea Fehlinger with whom he had several children. He died there in 1916 shortly after suffering a paralytic stroke.
