Ed was a good, honest, hard-working man who loved the Lord and his family and country. He had an ear to ear smile and a kind heart. He was a respectful and caring son, a good and faithful husband, a supportive and loving daddy, a proud and fun PawPaw, a kind and encouraging brother, and a true and faithful friend. He lived with integrity and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He led his family by example and treated everyone with respect.
Ed loved nature and was happiest outdoors where he enjoyed gardening, especially growing watermelons and purple hull peas, tending to his cattle, spending time in his shop working on his collection of tractors and coming up with new inventions. He was a great mechanic and welder.
Ed was ordained as Deacon at Emmanuel Baptist Church where he faithfully served and worshipped. He was a member of the American Legion. He served his country in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was employed by Swepco for 33 years where he worked at Lieberman and Flint Creek Power Plants.
He is preceded in death by parents Hardy and Vera Whatley and sister, Joanne Cox. Survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Mary Crocker Whatley, one daughter, Jnell Walker and husband, Tony of Plain Dealing, LA, one son, Marty Whatley and wife Tammy of Vivian, LA, five grandchildren, Jamie Whatley, Jason Whatley, Tiffany Whatley, Dr. Jessica Walker, and Colton Walker, brother, Raymond Whatley and wife Beth of Blanchard, LA, sister, Judy Lucius of Gainesville, FL, 10 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews.
Although he is gone from this earth, he has left his legacy within us. It is such an honor and blessing to have been loved by him.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
