went to be with her husband of 62 years, Foster L. Ratliff, Sunday, October 31, 2010. Juanita was born in 1926 in Huddy, KY, the 6th of 12 children. She is survived by 4 siblings, Helen Shupe, Lottie Faye McFarland, Shirley Ann Dempsey, and John W. Blackburn. She was a beloved family member to numerous nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, and other family.
Juanita was a 50 year, founding member of East Frankfort Baptist Church, and past president of the Rebecca Lodge. Both were important organizations to her.
She was briefly employed by the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and then a homemaker; keeping Foster well-fed was a full-time job. She loved to cook her shuck beans and bake vinegar pies. She gardened for most of her life, knitted, quilted, and enjoyed many friendships.
Juanita and Foster lived briefly in CA and MI then in NC; they enjoyed it there. She loved her cats, especially Jill who went with her to assisted living where she made a wonderful new friend who all called Mamaw – they were inseparable.
Visitation will be at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home Friday, November 5, 2010, from 11am until 1pm. Service at 1:00pm and burial will follow in Frankfort Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to KY Natural Lands Trust, 443 Chestnut St., Berea, KY 40403, knlt.org, or the Humane Society of Frankfort.
Arrangements are under the direction of Harrod Brothers Funeral Home
