Doris Ruth Enfield, 78, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Lockwood. She was born May 17, 1932, to Waldermar and Ethel (Deardorff) Burmester on their farm in Jerico Springs, the eldest of four children.
She attended Fowler Elementary through eighth grade, and then went on to graduate from Stockton High School. At Towson State University she received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education.
In 1954, she married John Bond and had two children, Thomas and Deborah Doster. She married again April 5, 1980, to Francis Wallace Enfield Jr. She resided in Harford County Maryland the majority of her adult life. For 32 years, she taught children at Highland Elementary and North Harford Elementary schools. When she retired from teaching in Maryland, she moved back to Jerico Springs to be closer to family. Here, she resumed her love of teaching at Stockton elementary. As a teacher, her passion was teaching young children the joy of reading. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, tending her flowers, reading and collecting decorative dishware. She was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Stockton.
Survivors incude her husband, Wallace Enfield; two children, Thomas Bond of Jerico Springs and Deborah Doster and husband Brian of Tampa, Fla.; her grandchildren, Karen and Benjamin Doster; her siblings, Janice (Burmester) Hendricks and husband Max and Harold Burmester and wife Linda; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends near and far.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Waldemar and Ethel Burmester; her first husband, John O. Bond; and a sister, Dorothy (Burmester) Cates.
Visitation was at noon Tuesday, Feb. 22, followed by services at 1 p.m. at St. Andrew Lutheran Church. Burial is in Zion Cemetery, Jerico Springs, under the direction of Brumback Funeral Home.
