Irene C. Kezeske, 83, of Custer, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 26, 2005, at the Portage County Health Care Center with her family at her side. She was under the care of Ministry home care hospice services.

Irene was born to Frank and Helen (Garski) Stanislawski in Rosholt on Nov. 15, 1921. She attended teachers college and taught school in the town of Sharon.

Irene was married to her lifelong friend, Ernest A. Kezeske, on June 27, 1942, at Saint Adalberts Catholic Church in Rosholt. Together, they owned and operated Ernie & Irene's Tavern in Polonia for 62 years of their marriage.

Ernie & Irene's was a favorite gathering place for family, friends and neighbors in Polonia. Many happy days and long nights were spent there enjoying Ernie & Irene's warm hospitality.

When Irene was able to get out from behind the bar, she loved cheering on the softball, pool and horseshoe teams that they sponsored. Irene loved all sports and had many friends with whom she enjoyed spending time.

She lived her life devoted to the Lord Jesus Christ and the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a member of the Rosary Society and the Saint Cecilia Choir.

Irene is survived by her beloved husband, Ernest; her children, Ernie Jr. (Carol) Kezeske of Stevens Point, Randy (Dorothy) Kezeske of Custer, and Eileen Kezeske of Custer; and her dear grandchildren, Kurt (Mary) Kezeske of Milwaukee, Scott (Donna) Kezeske of Stevens Point, Jennifer (Christopher) Rzentkowski of Stevens Point, and Jackie (Darrell) Kostuch of Rosholt. She also is survived by her sisters, Loretta Kedrowicz of Rosholt, Caroline Kurszewski of Stevens Point, and Lillian Sopa of Franklin; sister-in-law, Sylvia Kezeske; and several nieces and nephews.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Edwin, Felix, Emil and Florence; and half sisters, Dorothy Gauger and Clara Baran.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Polonia with the Rev. Marcin Mankowski officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
