Born to German immigrant John Bates and PA born Elizabeth married Rosannah Henry Jan 30,1873. They had 7 children: Warren Henry, Hettie H. (Hilton),Lizzie (Walker), Jeremiah John, Alvin Lewis, Harvy, and Harry. Was a farmer all his life except during Civil war service when he served with the 199th PA regiment as an unassigned volunteer in the hospital Dept at Hock Station. Died in the home of his daughter and S-I-L Hettie and John Hilton on 1017 Frances Ave Rossmere.
