Baylor County Attorney from 1895-1897

Judge Jo A.P. Dickson moved to Seymour from Fort Worth in February 1883. In April, 1883, he received his commission from Jo Woodyear to act as deputy Sheriff in Baylor County and in the 15 unorganized counties attached to Baylor for judicial purposes. He served first under John T. Ingram as Sheriff and then under A.L. Board. This was during Baylor County's most interesting period, from a historical point of view. The vast territory west of Baylor County was unsettled and untrained in the finer points of the law.

When Sheriff Board's term as sheriff expired, he and Judge Dickson formed a real estate partnership. This continued until 1893, the men going through the strenuous period of boom days.

In 1894, Judge Dickson received his license to practice law, and a few days afterward, he was appointed county attorney, serving 2-1/2 years. In 1896, he was elected district attorney, serving four years. In 1901, Judge S.I. Newton died and Mr. Dickson was appointed judge of the 50th Judicial district, filling out the unexpired term. In 1908, Mr. Dickson was elected judge of the district and served eight years. Since that time, he has been engaged in the practice of law in Seymour.

On 25 December 1890, Judge Dickson married Miss Cora Donnell. They have four girls and two boys.
