BOONEVILLE - Charles William Bolton, 70, died Monday, February 16, 2004, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. He was born May 7, 1933, in Booneville to Charlie Lamar Bolton and Lois Hester Bullard Bolton. He was a member of White Station Church of Christ in Memphis. In his younger years, he worked as a surveyor and bookkeeper for the Booneville Cotton Gin and as a disc jockey at radio stations in Booneville and Corinth. Later he was a school teacher and principal, an Amway dealer and a Saladmaster cookware salesman. He emceed country music shows with Buddy and Kay Bain, and had a comedy act called "Country Cuzz." He received the "Mr. Deejay USA" Award from WSM Radio in 1954 and 1958. For the past several years he was a sales manager in the insurance, pre-need and annuities industry. An accomplished musician, he enjoyed playing the guitar, mandolin and bass fiddle.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the Zion Rest Church of Christ with Minister Tony Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Rest Cemetery. Booneville Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Glidewell and husband, Tim, of Dyersburg, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Jared Nobles and Cason Nobles; a brother-in-law, Billy Bellamy of Marietta; a niece, Becky Thomas of Marietta; a nephew, Mark Thomas of Marietta; two great-nephews, Seth Thomas and Aaron Thomas.

He was preceded in death by a son, Barry Bolton, on Nov. 13, 1978; and a sister, Lucy Bellamy.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Gray, Jerry Warren, Mark Thomas, Gene Pharr, J. T. Liles III and Stanley Downs. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Hester and Marlin Grisham.

The body will be placed in the church one hour before services today. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P. O. Box 2680, North Canton OH 44720; or to the American Heart Association, P. O. Box 16808, Jackson MS 39236-6808.
