ELTON KERNELSON KILLAM
ROBERTSDALE -- Elton Kernelson Killam of Pensacola, 79, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. Killam was a native of Century, Fla., and a former resident of Robertsdale. Killam was retired from the U.S. Navy as a chief petty officer and served in various positions at Douglas Allen, Gayfers, Pen Air Federal Credit Union and Cramer Realty. He was president of the Consumer Credit Association of Pensacola in 1969 and was named Boss of the Year in 1972 by Credit Women International of Pensacola. Other civic activities included terms as board chairman of the Turner-Lee-Day School PTA. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Robertsdale for 40 years, where he served as Sunday school superintendent, teacher, trustee, church board chairman, secretary, treasurer, elder and elder emeritus. Killam was also a member of the Naval Masonic Lodge No. 24 in Warrington, Fla., for more than 50 years. He is survived by six daughters, Elaine Walker of Robertsdale, Wynell Austin of Lithonia, Ga.; Wanda Greer of Destin, Fla., Gloria Furgason and Sandy Killam-Hall, both of Lilburn, Ga., and Sherri Killam-Williams of Bay Minette; three sons, Elton W. Killam of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Don Killam of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Ken Killam of Pensacola; a brother, Clodis M. Killam of Pensacola; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mack Funeral Home in Robertsdale. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Robertsdale with the Rev. Dennis Middleton officiating. Graveside services will follow in Baldwin Memorial Cemetery in Robertsdale. The family suggests that memorials be made to the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Robertsdale, P.O. Box 1068, Robertsdale, AL 36567. Mack Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
