Harold G. Reiling, 99, of Atkinson died
peacefully Thursday, May 8, 2003, at
Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at
Atkinson Congregational UCC, where he
was a member. The Rev. Michael McBride
will officiate. Burial will be in Liberty
Cemetery, rural Atkinson.

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday at
Vandemore Funeral Home, Atkinson. Memorials
may be made to the church or the Atkinson
Rescue Squad.

Harold was born Nov. 1, 1903, in Port Byron,
the son of Henry and Lydia Ashdown Reiling.
He attended school in Coe Township,
Port Byron and Hillsdale.

He married Elizabeth Bowles Nov. 5, 1924,
in Port Byron. She died March 31, 2001.


Harold had farmed in the Port Byron and
Cordova area. He also had owned and operated
the Oliver & Case Implement dealership in
Port Byron. He had operated the bulk plant
for Illinois Oil Co. in Port Byron and had
a truck delivery service to the farming
community.

After moving to Atkinson in 1943, where
he farmed, he purchased the Chevrolet car
dealership and garage. He farmed until he
was 89 years old. He also drove the school
bus for many years in Atkinson.

He was a former member of the Atkinson
Kiwanis Club and the Odd Fellows Lodge,
Port Byron. He was interested in farming
and the progress that had been made in
agriculture and the ways of farming.

Survivors include his daughter and her
spouse, Marjorie and Myron Naugle, Atkinson;
sons and spouses, Frederick and Elvera
Reiling and Rodney and Mary Ann Reiling,
all of Atkinson; 11 grandchildren; 24
great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-
grandchildren; brother, Clair Reiling,
Winthrop, Iowa; and sister, Alberta
``Birdie'' Johnson, Geneseo. He was
preceded in death by a brother, Vernon,
and sister, Lila.
