James Franklin "Jimmy" Goins, 78, of Rosiclare, died at 3:45 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at Harrisburg Medical Center. Goins was born Feb. 22, 1920, in Rosiclare, the son of James Franklin "Frank" and Myrtle (Fulghum) Goins. He married Maude E. Shockley April 19, 1947, in Elizabethtown. To this union, two daughters were born: Sharon Louise Sanchez of Yuma, Ariz., and Jesseie Jean Towns of Vienna.
Goins worked as a miner for many years in fluorspar, copper and uranium mines. In later years he worked for Ozark-Mahoning and retired in 1984.
During the Great Depression, Goins joined the Civilian Conservation Corps. During World War II he served in the Asia-Pacific Theater as a soldier in the U.S. Army. After the war he became a life member of the Lusk Creek VFW Post 9227 in Golconda. Over the years, he developed a reputation far and wide as an avid coon hunter.
In addition to his wife and daughters, Goins is survived by his brother Bobby Goins and his wife Ruth of Prescot, Ariz.; his sisters Mae Carr of Elizabethtown and Mary Dale of Marion; his son-in-law Bruno Sanchez of Yuma, Ariz.; and four grandsons, Jason F. Meyer of Newton, Frank J. Towns of Vienna, Michael Sanchez of California and Joshua Sanchez of Virginia.
Goins is also survived by several nieces and nephews and his daughter, Brenda, from a previous marriage. His parents and two sisters, Jewell and Lucille Goins, preceded him in death.
