Henry E. Absher, 83, of Carmi died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

He owned and operated an oil company until 1991, owning 450 wells in the Tri-State area.

He owned Chevrolet dealerships in Norris City and Carmi until 1986.

He owned thoroughbred race horses and had been appointed to the Illinois Racing Board.

He was in the Merchant Marines and was a member of Illinois Oil and Gas Association, Kentucky Oil and Gas Association, Shriners and Elks. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Jane; and a son, Ron, of Carmi.

Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2001 at First United Methodist Church, with burial in White County Memorial Garden.

Memorial contributions may be made to Deaconess Hospital or his church.
