Lorraine Louise Hand, age 73, of Sebeka, MN , formerly of Menahga and Park Rapids, MN, passed away on Thursday evening, November 11, 2010 from complications following surgery at the Tri-County Hospital in Wadena, MN.
Lorraine was born on June 27, 1937 in Westwood, CA to Bunny and Peggy (Benham) Moore. When Lorraine was six years old, her family returned to the Park Rapids area where she attended public schools and grew into womanhood. On August 8, 1953, Lorraine was united in marriage to a handsome young sailor by the name of Russel Lowell Hand. This union was blessed with 8 children: Brenda, Dawn, Michael, Barb, Geraldine, Casey, Pat and Kelly. Lorraine devoted her life to making a warm and loving home for her husband and children. She was an excellent seamstress who would often work late into the night sewing clothes for her growing family or knitting or crocheting gifts for family or friends. Lorraine's life was forever saddened by the tragic death of her two year old son, Kelly in 1967. Lorraine was a past member of the Park Rapids Eagles Earie # 870 Auxiliary where she had served as a member of the drill team for a number of years. Later, she became quite involved with her fellow Park Rapids school alumni in planning the All-School Reunion. Lorraine always looked forward to luncheon gatherings with her former classmates. For the past decade, Lorraine was deeply involved with tracing her family geneology and has spent many hours working on this labor of love. Above all, Lorraine dedicated herself to her husband, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who she loved with all her heart.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband for the past 57 years, Russel of Sebeka; her seven children: Brenda (John) Mason of Park Rapids; Dawn Cedarbloom of Park Rapids, Michael (Debra Jo) Hand of Akeley, MN, Barbara (Frank) Mathiew of Menahga, Geri (Marty) Sullinger of Portales, New Mexico, Casey Hand of Plymouth, MN and Pat (Jill) Hand of Monticello, MN; her 16 precious grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; two sisters: Joyce Condiff of Park Rapids and Edna Meyer of Pine River; her best friend Leslie Sandberg as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Kelly.
Funeral services will be held 12 Noon on Monday, November 15, 2010 with the Rev. Duane Grage officiating. Sue Grage will be the soloist and will sing, "On the Wings of A Snow White Dove". Jane Wolff will serve as the organist. The active casketbearers will be grandchildren: Jim Poole, Mike Cedarbloom, Jon Cedarbloom, Sam Smith, Luke Makela, Eric Makela, Alicia Reamer and Serena Picken. The honorary casketbearers will be grandchildren: Lisa Mickelson, Elizabeth Blum, Nicole Hand, Jessica Hand, Abby Hand, Sheena Sordahl, Kayla Sullinger and Randi Jo Sullinger. Interment will be made in the Hand family plot located in the Greenwood Cemetery of Park Rapids.
