Sophia Margaretha LASCHANSKY was the daughter of Albert LASCHANSKY and Maria Elisabeth REHER. According to her father's burial record, Sophia was born in the village of Quaal, near the Protestant parish town of Segeberg in Schleswig-Holstein. She married Claus Ahrens on 5 Dec 1851 in the Protestant parish of Kaltenkirchen, which is located about 17 miles SW of Segeberg.
Sophia's brother, [Carl] Christian, is also buried at Blue Grass Cemetery (Memorial ID 104238031).

Immigration records document that Claus, Sophia and children Johann, Catharina Sophia, and Therese emigrated from Germany to the U.S. in 1881, departing Hamburg 1 June 1881 and arriving at New York City on 16 June 1881 on board the S.S. Lessing.

OBITUARY:
Mrs. Sophie Ahrens, nee Laschanski, died yesterday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, at the home of her son-in-law, Mr. Wm. Ramm, 813 Gaines street, where she was on a visit. The cause of death was apoplexy. The deceased was born in Holstein and had lived in this county 13 years. Her home was on her own farm in Blue Grass. The funeral will take place Friday afternoon from 813 Gaines street to the Blue Grass Cemetery.
