-----------
Claus was the son of Hartwig Ahrens & Christina Schlüe. Claus' baptism & marriage records indicated he was born in calendar year 1829, not 1830 as inscribed on his gravestone. The discrepancy may be due to the fact that German baptism records were based on the Church Year, which begins in Advent. Thus, Claus' baptism on 20 December was technically listed in "1830", but in reality he was born in "1829". Claus married Sophia Margaretha Laschansky on 5 Dec 1851 in the Protestant parish at Kaltenkirchen.
----------
Immigration records document that Claus, Sophia and children Johann, Catharina Sophia, and Therese emigrated from Germany to the U.S. in 1881, departing Hamburg 1 June 1881 and arriving at New York City on 16 June 1881 on board the S.S. Lessing.

1910 - Excerpt from Bio of Henry Ahrens. A Topical History of Cedar Co., Vol. II pages 713-714.

Claus Ahrens, who was also a native of that country and came to America in 1881. He located in Muscatine county, Iowa, and was there engaged in the bee industry until the time of his death, which occurred on the 1st of June, 1891.
