She was born June 15, 1937, in Jefferson County, the daughter of Clarence F. and Opal Brooks Elston. She resided all of her life in Jefferson County and was a 1955 graduate of Central High School. She was employed for 32 years as a secretary in the Food Service Department of the Madison State Hospital. She was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church near Moorefield for many years. She was also a member of the Bennington Rebekah Lodge 851. After moving to Canaan, she became a member of the Indian-Kentuck Baptist Church near Canaan. She enjoyed being a docent at the Madison State Hospital Museum, gardening, crafts, crocheting and working puzzles. She was a George Strait fan and belonged to his fan club. She also enjoyed being a mother, grandmother and friend. She had a Santa Claus collection and enjoyed caring for her yard.
She is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Lynn Lockridge of Canaan and Gregory Lee Lockridge of Shelbyville; one daughter, Betty Lou Cordle of Madison; two brothers, Dillion Elston of Anderson and Keith Elston of Charlestown; one aunt; one uncle; four grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Linda Parker, who died May 28, 1990 and Donna Layne, who died in 2010; and one brother, Earl D. Elston, who died Sept. 24, 1997.
The funeral was at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial was in Pleasant Cemetery.
