Mrs. John Sanders of Arriba Dies As Result of Lockjaw
Arriba and community were saddened last weekend upon learning that Mrs. Martha Sanders, wife of John Sanders of Arriba, had passed away at Colorado General Hospital, Denver, about 1:30 p.m. last Friday afternoon, cause of death being lockjaw with evidently resulted from a severe injury to her right hand, which was caught in a clothes wringer June 15 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chancey Norman while helping to wash. Mrs. Sanders was removed to Fingler Hospital at once and remained there until the next day when she returned to her home, east of Arriba. Tuesday, last week, her condition became more serious and she was taken to Flagler Hospital, returning home the same day soon after treatment, and some time later that night she was rushed to Colorado General Hospital, Denver, through the kindness of a neighbor, Ray Kerschen, and was accompanied by Mr. Sanders, their son, Ear, Mr. and Mrs. Chancey Norman. There her condition gradually became worse as lockjaw had begun and she passed away Friday afternoon.
Funeral services were conducted at Arriba Christian Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Rev. Elvin Frantz, pastor of Bethel Church of the Brethren, north of Arriba, officiating. Singers were John Kraxberger, Charles Keliher Jr. Miss Maxine Hulse, and Mrs. Audine Peterson, pianist Mrs. Fern Cassen. The large number of many beautiful flowers for this occasion, was evidence that the departed one had many friends through out the community.
Pallbearers were her six sons, and the remains were laid to rest in Arriba cemetery, Seal Mortuary directing.

She leaves to mourn her passing a husband, John Sanders of Arriba: six sons, Rev. Roy Sanders of Eldorado Ark, Ira of Ballantine, Not. Ora of Witter Ark. Pfc. Jess of Ft Worden, Wash, Pvt. Ralph of Camp Forrest, Tenn, Earl of Arriba; one daughter, Mrs. J.H. Owens of Featherfall, Calif. All being present.
Other relatives present were Mrs. Jess Sanders and a son-in-law, J. H. Owens of Featherfall, Calif. And Mrs. Ralph Sanders and two young daughters of Witter, Ark. Mrs. Sanders also leaves a brother of Chanute, Kan. And a brother of Peace Valley MO. Six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Mrs. Sanders had resided in the community north of Arriba for a number of years, moving to Friend, Kan. Several years later. They returned to Arriba in March 1942, where they have since resided. She had been a faithful member of the Church of the Brethren in Kansas as many years, devoted to her family and a kind friend to all who knew her, and she will be greatly missed by her loved ones and other relatives and friends. All of Arriba and community join in sincere sympathy to the bereaved families in their hour of great sorrow.

Martha Marie (Jarboe) Sanders was born at Morton Mills Iowa Jan. 21 1874 and passed away June 25, 1944 at the age of 70 years, 5 months and 2 days.

She was united in marriage to John Sanders in Huntsville Ark in 1896. To this union was born seven children one daughter and six sons.
She is survived by her husband, seven children, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and three brothers. J. H. Jarboe, Chanute Kan.; Samuel, Peace Valley MO.; and Joshua, Clearwater Kansas.
Mrs. Sanders was a member of the Brethern Chruch and loved the church and always enjoyed attending and taking part in its services. She was a friend of all who knew her. Her life was spent in doing good and helping others. She leaves many friends and relatives who will miss her words of Christian encouragement.

Members of the Sanders families who attended funeral services for Mrs. Martha Sanders Wednesday afternoon, were guest of the Christian Church Ladie's Aid at a dinner given them at noon in the church parsonage.
