Catherine Elizabeth Johanna Wenzel (Denzer widow)

Note: Burial locations of Catherine E. J. Wenzel and her last husband Johann Startz are unknown. They may be buried on his farm, about 2 miles south of the cemetery, or unmarked graves in Smithson Valley. We may never know. Smithson Valley used as a placeholder until more is known.

Catherine Elizabeth Johanna Wenzel (Denzer widow)emmigrated to Galveston, TX 4/1/1854 with her brother Fredrich A. Wenzel and his wife Christine and children Carl, Johanne, and Fredrich, and Caroline. Catherine Wenzel Denzer brought her two sons Heinrich Denzer and Carl Denzer. Catherine Wenzel married Johann F. Startz in 10/30/1854 in New Braunfels, TX. Catherine was born in Prussia, no well-supported birth date has been established, and was estimated to have died January 1858 on the Johann Startz farm near Bulverde, TX. Johann is believed to have died two weeks after Catherine in January 1858.

One child of Johann and Catherine:

(1) Ludwig Carl Startz but used the American name "Louis Charles Startz", b.9/23/1855 New Braunfels, TX; d.9/30/1936 on his son Emil's farm near Anadarko, OK; buried in Wallace Creek Cemetery in San Saba, TX. Reference findagrave memorial # 59742799 for a thorough story about Louis.

(2) Catherine had two sons from her previous husband Denzer; the two boys were kept a short time until Johann was near death; custody of the two Denzer boys was given by Johann to Catherine's nephew Karl Denzer.
