Lela Hope Callahan, 91, died Saturday at her home following a long illness.
A native of Fries, Va., she had moved to California in 1964 from the Palatka area, where she had lived since 1937. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Palatka and the Assembly of God in Palo Alto. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by four daughters, Christine Hilts of Blossvale, N.Y., Delphine Turner of Palatka, Portia Nishi of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Kavalla Callahan of Palo Alto; three sons, Ted Callahan of Palatka, Dean Callahan of Phoenix, Ariz., and Darrell Callahan of El Paso, Texas; a brother, John Hampton Hackler of Virginia; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka with the Rev. John Miles and the Rev. Hence Allen officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill East Cemetery. (Palatka Daily News Obituary dtd 25 Jun 1993.)
