Isabelle is the daughter of Johann Harms Gastmann Tammen and Jerusha Conklin Tammen. Isabelle's Mother died shortly after she was born. Her name is actually Isabelle Katherine Tammen Wilson Downing. Isabelle along with three of her siblings was placed in the Mothers Little Jewels orphanage in York, Nebraska by her father for reasons unknown where she was adopted by the Wilson's. She was later returned to Hastings at the age of 16. She was given $.50 by Hattie (the adopted mother) and told that she was being returned from where she came. She later met and married Fred Downing.
