Professional Football Player. For three seasons (1947 to 1949), he played at the left-guard and linebacker positions in the National Football League with the Los Angeles Rams. Born Hal Stone Dean, he played football while attending Wooster High School and continued his athletic accomplishments playing collegiate football at Ohio State University. While with the Buckeyes, Dean played for the legendary Paul Brown and was a member of their 1942 squad which captured both the Big Ten and National Championship titles. His studies were interrupted while he served in the Pacific Theater with the 11th Airborne Division during World War II; he earned two Bronze Stars. Upon returning home, he resumed at Ohio State and achieved All-Bug Ten status while receiving his Bachelor of Science in Geology. Dean was selected by Los Angeles during the 30th round of the 1947 NFL Draft and appeared in 35 career regular season games. He was a starting guard for the 1949 Rams' team which appeared in the NFL Title Game (defeated by the Philadelphia Eagles 14 to 0). Following his football career, he moved to Texas where he worked in the petroleum industry.
